The Shocking Nokia Lumia

I would imagine that as a technology company one of the worst things you could hear is that your product is causing physical injury to users. Fortunately for Nokia, they caught the problem in their Lumia tablet travel charger before anyone suffered:

Nokia Travel Charger Nokia stops selling Lumia 2520 tablet over electrical shock concerns

Nokia has issued a product advisory for certain Lumia 2520 chargers and has temporarily suspended sales of the Windows tablet in the UK and parts of Europe. The notice applies to its Europe- and UK-only AC-300 charger, along with the 2520 travel charger accessory…

Nokia is proactively announcing an advisory for the product and suspending sales of the tablet to avoid any potential injury. GottaBeMobile writes:

“Nokia is saying that there are no reports of injury because of the flaw and stresses that this is a precautionary move on its part. The core of the problem is that the plastic cover of the charger’s plug could come lose and separate. If that happens a user could be exposed to a shock if they touch the plug while it is in a live socket.”

While the problem is mainly with European and UK releases, approximately 600 chargers released in the US also have this same issue. For more information you can read Nokia’s official report:

Nokia Announces Product Advisory for AC-300 Charger for the Lumia 2520 tablet in select European countries

Nokia has announced a product advisory for the European and UK variant of the AC-300 charger. This charger is used exclusively with the Lumia 2520 tablet and was sold in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland and UK. While this announcement does not impact the in-box charger of the Lumia 2520 sold in the United States…

For Lumia users, you may want to wait for this problem to be resolved before taking your tablet on a trip.
