Heartbleed

If you’ve spent five minute on the internet this week, chances are you’ve heard of Hearbleed. No matter how you’re accessing the internet – mobile or not – you are at risk. Here’s what it’s about:

New hacking challenge shows Heartbleed is as bad as we thought

You’ll have been hearing a lot about the Heartbleed bug this week, and it’s now been confirmed that the vulnerability can be used to nab private security keys from a server. That means a rogue site could pose as a genuine one, and neither you nor your browser would be any the wiser. …

Rumors have gone around that the government is somehow behind this massive bug. Everyone in the government is, of course, denying these rumors:

US government denies being aware of Heartbleed internet bug

The White House and US intelligence agencies said on Friday that neither the National Security Agency nor any other part of the government were aware before this month of the “Heartbleed” bug, denying a report that the spy agency exploited the glitch in widely used web encryption technology to gather intelligence. …

Right now we should all be taking steps to keep our private information safe. McAfee security has come up with a program to help you know what websites are safe and what you should avoid:

Heartbleed: Free Tool to Check if That Site Is Safe

I’m sure you’ve heard the news about Heartbleed by now (unless you’re in vacation wonderland and have taken a tech break). This is a serious vulnerability in the core of the Internet and is something we all should be concerned about. …

Still not quite sure you understand what this is all about? XKCD, a quite popular (and my personal favorite) webcomic should help you out:
